I love a good hobby and have tried several new ones over the past year. Here are a few of my favorite hobbies that are cheap and easy to do!
Origami
Paper cranes are so easy to make and this costs next to no money. You can buy origami paper on Amazon for only a few dollars. I made a crane mobile once and had a lot of fun doing it. Many people believe that 1000 paper cranes will heal someone who is sick!
Pottery
Air-dry clay is 20 usd on Amazon! With the help of basic kitchen tools (water, sponges, forks, and knives) you can set up a nice at home pottery studio. I've made shot glasses and small mugs. It is calming and rewarding.
Blogging!
Writing down random thoughts and ideas in a blog! Its so fun and a great way to practice your writing skills. It. is also a fun way to document your life and special moments.
Gardening
This one requires a bit more money, time, and attention but is super rewarding. Last summer I grew tomatoes and cucumbers in my backyard. It helped me to feel connected to nature while living in the city and I was proud of my fruit! It was a small way to feel accomplished. The garden was a real people pleaser and a beautiful sight. Friends also helped me a lot with watering and maintenance.
Scrap-booking
I tape trash into my journal and call it scrap-booking but its a fun way to keep track of where I have been and the things I've collected. Bus tickets, napkins, flyers etc. all work for this. I think I'll look back on this fondly when I'm older.
Chess
My favorite hobby? Possibly... It is good for any season, and for people with any level of expertise. Chess is calming, strategic, competitive, and mentally stimulating. If you don't know how to play, I highly recommend learning.
Treasure hunting
This is my dads favorite but also something I find interesting. Check out "The Secret" poems and paintings! So many jewels are left to be discovered. There is so much to be found.
Headstands and Yoga This is a good way to get active and practice a skill thats good for your body. You can use a friend to hold your legs and they can help you learn to walk on your hands. This is something I want to do more of. Yoga is less specific than a head/handstand obviously but is something I really recommend doing in the mornings and before bed. It will make you feel good both inside and out!
Crochet and Knit
This is a good hobby if you fidget a lot like I do. You can do this while watching a movie or talking to friends. If you live in a city like me, its great on public transportation! It is a rewarding task and there are great youtube video tutorials. You can find needles and yarn for super cheap at discount and thrift stores!
Skate-boarding
Skating is so fun and youthful! I did it a lot during COVID and bought a cheap board at Target. A great way to get active and a fantastic adrenaline rush.
