Not Made for Mallorca

This last weekend, my boyfriend and I travelled to the island of Majorca (Mallorca) off the coast of Spain. The flights cost 30 dollars and the room we rented off air bnb costed us not much more. We really scored.... or so we thought.
We arrived in Palma only to find the entire city boarded up. Since the island is usually only busy in the summertime, most business owners were taking this time to go on holiday.
Although we enjoyed walking around the city, there wasn't too much to do. We realized that if we really wanted to see Mallorca, we would need a car. After talking to 3 rental places trying to get a reasonable deal, we were about to bite the bullet and spend the 90 dollars for a car. As the woman went to swipe my card, I stopped her.....
"These cars..." I said, "They are automatic?"
She gave me a wicked spiders smile.
"No."
There went that idea. But hey.. what about.... a motor bike?
Again, we went to several different rental spots. All were closed. We had almost given up. We even went back to the house for a siesta. Then, I got a call. A shop owner agreed to let us rent for the weekend, even though he was closed. We agreed to meet him at his shop in 20 minutes.
We should have known it was a bad idea.
Needless to say, we crashed into a tree, at a red light, on the same street we rented it from.
Nothing major, no one hurt or anything. The bike was damaged and we cut our losses. We walked the bike back to the shop, our heads hung, knowing when to cut our losses.
That being said, the next day was magical. We took the bus and taxis around the island, exploring Valdemossa, Soller, and Deia. We watched a movie at a local theatre and took a trolley to the port for the sunset. It was beautiful!
Yet, I woke up the next morning only to find I had lost my wallet- my debit card and I.D.
I was joyous to be back in London yesterday. This weekend was full of a few not-so-fine moments of mine but I still enjoyed the scenery and quality time with my partner <3.
If you are ever in Mallorca good luck though I hope you fair better than I did.
