In Estranged Labor, Karl Marx discusses the alienation of the worker from the sensuous natural world around us. Labor and the commodification of goods has created a divide between people and the beautiful external land we inhabit. Now, with the arrival of this new alien species (aka Ai and gpts), jobs are being taken over by machines. Will their help with completing our annoying mundane tasks allot time for us to return to the woods? To the waterfalls, hills, and forests around us? Or are we being robbed? Has it already happened? Are we as a species already doomed and destined to become cyborgs? My sociological theories professor and I discussed this and the general desensitization of society during class today. She referenced a book she'd recently started (with a title that I can't remember for the life of me!) where the author provides examples of this tech take-over skewing the script...walks being replaced with doom scrolling, books with movies, sex with porn.
The over accessibility to content is making us only more disconnected with our surroundings.
I know you're reading this on your laptop or your phone. STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's go on a walk?
How bout we play in the leaves rn instead?
Bring back sensuous nature 2024
