There is no better feeling than getting mail.  This summer at Yellowstone I’ve sent out over 30 postcards. Considering the small margin of space, postcards force me to be intentional with my words. There’s only so much room!

Sending out postcards to distant relatives and old friends has been a nice simple way to check in. That being said, this morning, I woke up wanting to say more! Feeling urged to write to my loved ones a bit more in depth, at the crack of dawn, I headed out to the general store in search of stationary and some envelopes. Considering I live in the middle of a no cell service zone I figured this would be an easy find. Wrongo!

I spent the morning scavenging for envelopes. The general store sent me to the visitor center, the visitor center to the gift shop, the gift shop to the post office. I arrived at the post office in frustration. When I relayed my problem to the woman working-- she scoffed.

“That’s not possible. Everywhere sells them.”

"Nuh-uh" I told her which she didn’t like. And sent me to the hotel.

At the hotel, I asked once more.

"Envelopes, and some stationary please."

“Nobody writes anymore. We don’t have those.”

So I left, dragging my feet a little bit.

Back in my dorm, I will be hand making envelopes today because handwritten notes deliver love.

They demonstrate care and thought in a tangible way. Plus it’s fun to be surprised.

Out of joy for (and sadness for the loss of) the medium I will only be upping my postal game.

So please text me your addresses and write to me in return.

let’s be pen pals

What I learned climbing a mountain

After doing something hard, we are often asked "what did you learn?" Or- what did you relearn? What did it remind you? 10,000 feet high...
